One of the origami trends is modular or 3D origami. Volume crafts in this technique are made of small modules which are inserted into each other. Crafts of extraodinary beauty can be created in this technique. To create a volume masterpiece it`s necessary to make these modules first. It turns out it`s not difficult. The main here is patience as for making a bright impressive craft a lot of multicolored small triangles with pockets are needed.

Office or coated colored paper can be materials for modules. Magazine clippings and candy wrappers can even be used. School colored paper shouldn`t be taken as it`s thin, loose and tears at the folds.

You`ll need a rectangle of colored or white paper. The aspect ratio of a recrangle sides should be about 1:1,5. You`ll have such rectangles if you divide a sheet A4 into equal parts. Modules can be of different sizes depending on the craft size.

Thus, if you want to have the rectangles 53x74 mm, you are to divide and cut the long and short sides of the sheet A4 into equal parts. You`ll have 16 small rectangles from one sheet.

For small rectangles 37x53 mm divide the long side of the sheet A4 into 8 parts, and the short side into 4 parts and cut along the target lines. You`ll have 32 rectangles from one sheet.

For modules you may use square blocks of paper for notes cutting them in half.

In the schemes the size of modules is usually marked like this: 1/64 A4 which indicates the sheet A4 should be cut into 64 equal parts.

You can divide a paper sheet either by hand with a pencil and a ruler or you can draw a net of the right size on a sheet on the computer, print and cut.

When the rectangles are ready, start to fold the triangles-modules. Here`s the scheme:
