Cooking with kids ideas, menu. Turkish Delight — from Arabic — means «a handy piece», an Eastern dessert from sugar, starch and nuts; it has been known for more than 500 years. At the end of the 18th century the court cooks of the Sultan prepared this delicacy in a new fashion, and since then it has acquired more fame.

Why does this Eastern dessert have such a huge charge of vital energy? More likely it's because of its composition. For example, carrot can help at the drop in visual acuity and anemia. It's good to eat nuts at hypertension, obesity, high cholesterol and insomnia. Coconut promotes treatment of veneral and urologic diseases.

You'll Need:

— 1 kg of sugar,
— 500 ml of water,
— 100 gr of starch,
— 0,5 glass of powdered sugar,
— 2 table spoons of apricot jam,
— 2 table spoons of rose jam,
— 3 teaspoons of minced lemon zest,
— 1 cinnamon stick,
— 1/4 of a table spoon of the crushed roasted almonds and ditto hazelnut.

Recipe of Cooking:

1. Pour the starch with a glass of water. Put all sugar into a pan, add 300 ml of water and coddle till it dissolves.

2. Bring the syrup to the boil and pour a solution of the starch. Reduce the heat and cook the weight stirring constantly until thick.

3. Add the lemon zest and cinnamon. Divide the weight into 2 parts, add jam and nuts into each, put the composition into the moulds and leave to harden. Cut into blocks and roll under the powdered sugar.

4. Yummy Turkish Delight is ready! Bon Appetit!
