Fruit and vegetable carving art is used for creating decorations for dishes: fruit and vegetables are carved and then placed in a certain way so as to shape a cute composition to make meals look more attractive and eye-catching. For beginners in carving I'd like to offer to carve a Rose from an apple (your kids will readily learn to do it); then you may pass to carving it from various fruit and vegetables.

Roses from Fruit and Vegetables

Rose from an Apple

Use only firm apples: red or green. Cut the apple in quarters, take the core away and cut thin slices 1-2 mm. thickness.

Put the cut apple slices into water with lemon juice for 30 min. and cook them in the syrup from water and sugar. Then you may start twisting up a rose. Twist a first slice.

All the rest slices are twisted successively one after another. Fasten the made rose at the bottom with a toothpick poking it through at the base of the rosette.

Such rosettes can be carved not only from apples.

Roses from Carrot and Beet

For this you may use boiled carrot cut lengthwise in thin slices and boiled beets.

Use a fresh cucumber cut lengthwise in thin strips or a fresh tomato.

If you cut a fresh potato in thin slices, then roll them as a rose and put it for some time into a large amount of boiling oil, you'll have an original rose from chips.
